About me

My name is Shawna Brown. I am a professional web and graphic designer in Richmond, Virginia.

I have a decade of professional experience and bachelor degree in web graphics from Virginia State University; cum laude. I strongly believe I have the necessary skills to tackle any challenge in this role. My current position at the Department of Housing and Community Development has allowed me to play an integral part of the new transformative designs to retell the story of the utilizing a number of media outlets (Print, Web, Mobile Devices). My creativity and leadership skills along with my ability to collaborate with various stakeholders make me an asset to any team. I am extremely experienced in Photography, Adobe Creative Suite; InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, etc. HTML/CSS, Web Content Management Systems (Drupal, joomla, sitebuilder, wordpress). I also have various views of digital editing. I have skill in researching, editing and knowledge of up to date desktop publishing technologies and tools.

I worked closely with several important Media & Technology teams in two State Government Agencies for the Commonwealth of Virginia; Virginia State University and The Department of Housing Community Development.

I have successfully campaigned a program to help educate and encourage college students at Virginia State University. The mission #Outin4 was to successfully graduate students within 4-year mark while assisting administration to maintain standard retention rate for the University. This campaign continues to be successful under two presidents of the University (2015-present).

I was awarded the opportunity to be the conference photographer for Virginia Governor Housing Conferences 2017 & 2018. Consequently, I was the photographer for several Governor Northam ribbon-cutting events, representing DHCD agency.

With the work I’ve accomplished in the community, I’d Received the Trojan 10 under 10 Achievement Award from Alma Mater; Virginia State University January 2020.
